1-UrbanHistoric Summit Avenue Walking TourStroll along Summit Avenue, one of the “best-preserved Victorian streets in the United States.” From the Mississippi River to the Cathedral of St. Paul well over 300 of the original 440 mansions remain. We will point out some of the homes, noting their unique architectural designs and their inspiration. Learn more about the families that inhabited these homes during these heydays of St. Paul. Approximately 3-mile walk ending at Bread & Chocolate on Grand Avenue for a treat on your own. Walk beside some of the historic homes in the area including: the Cobb House, the Fillebrown House, former sites of grand hotels and Woodland Indian burial mounds. Continue by Manitou Island, an island with many variations of how it received its name. Mark Twain’s version can be found in Matoska Park near the gazebo. #8705B Saturday, December 2.
