Medieval Castle STEAM Class will learn the architectural elements and function of medieval castles. Create aerial blueprints to design and make a castle. Build a working trebuchet and use it to compete in a siege against the other castles! Whose castle will withstand the attack? Our field trip will be to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Registration is by invitation only and is non refundable after May 13. Teacher: Carolyn Ruhnow has taught for 30 years, all grades 1-5, most recently in 5th grade. She taught a year in England and that is where she developed her love for all things English, especially castles.

Students will learn about ocean ecosystems and different types of marine life. Students will create visual representations, such as the ocean zones in a bottle, and do a deep dive into their favorite marine creature in an animal research project. This hands-on course will help engage students to learn more about marine biology! Our field trip will be to Sealife Aquarium at Mall of America. Registration is by invitation only and is non refundable after May 13. My name is Kyleigh Winkler and I am a 5th grade Odyssey teacher at Rice Lake. I graduated from the College of Saint Benedict, where I majored in elementary education and minored in Hispanic Studies. I have always been interested in science, especially marine biology. Fun fact, I caught a huge hammerhead shark when I went fishing off of the Florida Keys!

Have a 'whale of a time' exploring the deep blue sea this summer! You will learn about ocean life in all parts of the sea, from the shallow tide pools to the deep, dark abyss! We have a variety of science experiments/lessons, games, art projects, and videos/movies to share with you! You will create a costume for a play, and take a trip to the Sea Life Aquarium! While there, we hope to take a special class about habitats and adaptations and then go behind the scenes to see how the animals are fed and cared for. These 6 days will 'shore-ly' make you want to dance in your 'flippers!' We hope to ‘sea’ you there! Our field trip will be to Sealife Aquarium at the Mall of America.
